At St Andrew’s we offer an extensive PE curriculum that allows our pupils to take part in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.
Children have two weekly PE lessons; one led by a specialist Sports coach from ELMs and the other by the class teacher. We follow the Enfield curriculum plan for PE and make full use of our two school halls, field, playground and MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) for lessons.
In Key Stage 1 children focus on three areas: dance, games and gymnastics. This learning is developed in Key Stage 2 where the children have opportunities to take part in a wide range of sporting activities including: netball, rugby, football, cricket, tennis, hockey, athletics, rounders, cross country, gymnastics, orienteering and dance. In addition, children in Year 5 have two terms of swimming lessons.
We also take part in competitive sporting events across our school partnership group as well as in the local borough. For example, the annual District Sports Athletic Events at Lea Valley, Swimming galas at Southbury Leisure Centre, Tag Rugby at Enfield Old Ignatians RFC and the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace.
As a school, we take part in the Enfield Inclusive Games, giving our pupils with special educational needs the opportunity to take part in sporting events with other schools.
